Digital CollageTitle: Tea Pot Thoughts
Medium: Photoshop Size: 24x36" September 2015 Exhibition Text: In this piece my intention was to allow the people observing the piece to question what's going on in piece, why the absurd color combinations? Or why is he holding a tea pot. In order to have an ambiguous appearance, it had to have odd color in unexpected places; body, background teapot. The piece was influenced by Copley and Andy Warhol's during the pop art movement. |

Sketches and Process
To create my digital collage I had to work with Adobe Photoshop. This complex program does have countless amounts of functions and capabilities, all available to whoever is given the chance to work with it This being my first time using Photoshop in any form whatsoever, I had struggled quite a a lot to finally get the hang of how to use the buttons and tools offered. In the case of my piece, Tea Pot Thoughts, I was using the quick select tool to render specific parts of the piece to be able to edit them in whatever form that I found pleasing. Since I was taking Inspiration from the color Scheme of the Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol, I used the Photoshop's ability to directly change and alter the hues within the selected area. With the goal of keeping the element of ambiguity present throughout the piece, I began creating copies of the image that I had taken. Since one of the requirements for my assignment was that all photographs that were used had to be taken by the artist creating the piece. I had some architectural photos of the downtown metropolitan area of Milwaukee, and I was intent on using them as a base for digital collage at first, that is the reason for my architectural sketches that I had first drawn up. As I began sketching more and more, I began to experiment with patterns with in the buildings, which led me to create building like structures solely dedicated to be consistent of inconsistent patterns throughout the sketch. From those sketches and my little experience with photo editing from programs that were not half as complex as Photoshop, I decided to use geometric shapes throughout the piece, that way the inspiration from Andy Warhol's piece could be easily inferred. I had to create multiple copies of the same image and size so that they would be geometric in line with all the other shapes, and slowly changing the hues of what ever selected areas.

Reflection
When creating my digital collage, I was learning as I was working and creating. Photoshop to me is now a actual option in terms of artistic creation, the tools are now considerable familiar to me. In conclusion, for the future I would try to focus on one source of inspiration rather than two so that way the piece could be easier to notice or understand.
